Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) Costs Hit Record Lows

February 8, 2012 pathguide

We’ve seen a significant price reduction for supplying our vendor managed inventory (VMI) solution. With the steep price reduction for mobile devices, more distributors can extend affordable VMI services to their customers. E.B. Horsman & Son, an electrical distributor based in British Columbia, has been using Latitude VMI to allow real-time confirmation or correction on specific orders.

Latitude VMI allows EB Horsman’s clients to replenish their warehouse stock with a quick barcode scan. These scans create new orders that are sent to EB Horsman via wireless connection, where they are quickly confirmed and processed. This allows EB Horsman to win new clients who demand rapid, error-free order replenishment capabilities.

The recent availability of the Intermec model CS40, a smartphone-like handheld computer with a robust design perfect for warehouse environments, cuts the price of VMI hardware by nearly 40%.

“New hardware offerings make Latitude’s VMI solution easily accessible to distributors who want to make reordering more convenient for their customers,” says PathGuide CEO Eric Allais. “We’re excited to see how VMI will give distributors the ability to attract new business that they might not be able to land otherwise.”

VMI is part of PathGuide’s Latitude Warehouse Management System, a software suite that  provides real-time online information about warehouse inventory. Latitude automates all operations: from receiving and order picking, to manifesting and truck route/stop management.

Latitude WMS integrates seamlessly with major Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) business systems from such companies as Epicor, Oracle, SAP, Microsoft and Infor.
