5 Questions with Erick Shoup, Systems Implementation Engineer

Rebecca Hagge

In the latest post of our employee spotlight series, we’re thrilled to sit down with Erick Shoup, a Systems Implementation Engineer located in Newburgh, IN. Erick is one of the newest members of the PathGuide team, having joined us in March 2022. However, he’s no stranger to our organization. We first met Erick when he was an Information Systems Manager for Midwest Equipment & Supply Co. in Evansville, IN.

Erick brings more than 20 years of experience in information systems service, support, and project management across a wide range of high-demand and fast-paced industries. In addition to his energy and enthusiasm for this new role, Erick’s experience overseeing day-to-day management of PathGuide’s Latitude Warehouse Management System (WMS) and Latitude Manifest & Shipping System (LMS) for a leading wholesale distributor are proving invaluable in his new role!

Thinking back, what attracted you to the job you were hired to do at PathGuide?

I had worked with PathGuide extensively at my previous position as IT Manager for a distributor that is a longtime and highly satisfied customer. I found PathGuide to be responsive, communicative, positive, and effective – all are rare to find in a software vendor. I knew that it would be a culture that I could flourish in.

What work or projects are you most proud of and why?

I’m still new with PathGuide and integrating into the Systems Implementation team. I’ve been learning and training what I didn’t already know about Latitude WMS and Latitude Manifest & Shipping System, as well as assisting with support cases. I assisted on a successful customer physical inventory and go-live in late May, as well as a customer on-site consultation in June.

What advice would you offer someone who is interested in a similar career path?

Be willing to explore and learn new technology, and always be approachable and helpful. Those are applicable anywhere and in any position. Additionally, people remember how you treated them, not specifically what you did for them, so give everyone your respect and kindness. As far as specific skills, definitely learn some SQL and HTML / XML – there are great sites and videos online to get started.

What excites you most about your role today?

I have the opportunity to help people learn and implement the best warehouse management system. The team at PathGuide is stacked with experienced, talented, and collaborative people who are always willing to help.

Who do you turn to for advice, guidance or inspiration within PathGuide?

I have a number of people that I ping with questions if I can’t find the answer myself. I start with my team in Systems Implementation and Support Engineering. My direct manager, Kevin Murch, has been incredibly welcoming and supportive.

Thanks so much, Erick! We’re glad to have you on the team and can’t wait to hear more about your successes in this new role.

Keep an eye on the blog for yet another interview with one of our rockstar employees in the coming weeks!
